Why You NEED an Engagement Session

Once in a while I’ll get a client who says “do I need engagement photos?”  I’ll be honest – an engagement session is the single greatest investment you can make prior to your wedding.  A lot of couples have never been professionally photographed – the engagement session is a valuable tool every couple should utilize or insist upon.  Here are many reasons why you should do an engagement session:

We Build a Relationship.

This is super important.  Probably the most important reason out there.  I spend at least 2 hours with all my couples, talking, laughing, joking, listening and photographing them all at the same time.  The only way that you will be your natural self around me is if you are comfortable around me.  When we do an engagement session you get to see my sense of humor, my personality and my quirks and I get to see yours.  We get to build this super important relationship from the ground up – make jokes, have fun, laugh and talk about what’s important to you guys.  Not everyone is great in front of the camera – I get that, and I’ll help you through it.  Every photo we take it will get easier and easier to be yourself.  By the time your wedding comes around, you won’t even remember that you were camera shy, because at that point it’ll be like having a friend photograph your wedding.  (A friend with super awesome photography skills).

Build Confidence.

Once you see your images from the engagement session, you’ll get excited and build up your confidence in yourselves and in your photographer.  Instead of dreading having your photos taken on your wedding day, you’ll actually look forward to having a camera pointed at you!

Get a Taste

You’ll also get a taste of what to expect for your wedding day portraits.  This goes back to getting to know me and me getting to know you.  During your engagement session you’ll get a great taste of the pace at which I work.  On your wedding day you’ll know exactly what to expect – you’ll know how I work and my approach to photography.  This is a huge advantage to have when you want your wedding day to go smoothly and without stress.

You Fell in Love

Here’s a small window in life, a tiny slice of time that may be only a few months or a few years – not a lot compared to your entire life – where something HUGE happened.  Something that impacts your entire life moving forward, something awesome.  You fell in love.  You both fell in love and decided to share your life together…like a ripple in a pond this changes the course of your future, both your futures – you can even say that it changed the course of the world and everyone you’ll meet from that point on.  That’s why I think your engagement is HUGE – and to photograph this amazing time in your life, to have this forever frozen so it’s there to see whenever you wish – is priceless.

You’ll Get Awesome Photos.

Choose a location that is meaningful and fun to both of you, your photos will be that much more special.  I can pretty much guarantee you that if you do an engagement session (with me) you’ll get some killer photos. Which you can always use for save the dates & wedding announcements!  A lot of my couples print out their engagement photos and put them up around their home.

Here’s a few of my fav killer engagement photos and when you hire me, yours will look like this too.
