Still Using Internet Explorer 6?

Really? why?

Internet Explorer 6 is a relic, but many corporations continue to cling to it. Nonetheless, it’s surprising to discover that Intel–Microsoft’s long-time partner–is still using the ancient browser. ( yes, I’m going to whine and complain about this )

In a  blog post walking through its implementation of Windows 7, Intel talked a lot about the “heavy lifting” involved in moving from XP to Windows 7.

Turns out the browser is part of the heavy lifting. Intel writes:

The requirement to use Internet Explorer 8 introduces even more challenges. Intel has delayed deployment of IE7 and IE 8 in our intranet due to known issue with some very important applications….

You’d think that at least a company like Intel would be one of the first ones to upgrade.  Nope.  This is the case with alot of companies and its just quite sad.

At the same time, you can see by these statistics that Firefox is gaining more and more dominance in the web browser market.  Thats because it’s simply a better browser.  It complies with all web standards and trends, reads the newest and greatest CSS and doesn’t break when viewing pages with Javascript.  It’s just better.

Let’s be honest for a minute here.  Developing and designing for IE–and IE6 in general–is not that difficult, I do it all the time.  Few extra lines of code here and there a hack here and a work around there and boom, done.  My main issue with this is that it slows down progress.  It’s an ancient 10 year old browser people, just let it go.  It’s like using a horse and buggy to get around in 2010 ( sure it’s a gross exaggeration and the Amish use them, but you get my point, right? ).

So here are some alternatives to IE6:
Firefox | Chrome ( by google )

and if you must stick with Internet Explorer, here is where you can upgrade to IE8
( though I strongly recommend Firefox or Chrome )

So, in summation…..PLEASE UPDATE YOUR BROWSER IF YOU ARE USING IE6. ( yes I’m yelling )
