The first thing you need to know about Emma and Francesco (Frank) is that they both went to Northwestern. It’s where they met, fell in love with and got engaged – Frank proposed to Emma there! So it only makes sense that we did their engagement photos at Northwestern University. We explored the Northwestern campus, walked along the lake and even found a secret garden where students make out – though we didn’t see any when we were there.
The 2nd thing you need to know about them is they both look like famous people. Emma looks like Katy Perry (no joke) and Francesco looks like Shia LaBeouf. It’s not like they look like them a little bit – they both look like them A LOT!
The 3rd important thing is they are both incredibly humble despite being very very successful in life. This is a rare quality which carries with it other inherent qualities – like being funny, outgoing, caring and respectful. Both, Emma and Frank felt comfortable in front of the camera and the connection they share instantly translated. There was not a dull moment during the session – the three of us were laughing the entire time, especially during the garden sequence. Yeah, that was funny. I’m pretty stoked to shoot their wedding next year!
We ended the session with a couple of night shots because night portraits can be very creative due to the available light. I don’t use OCF because I like exploring the relationship to available light at night instead of bringing my own light – that’s easy. This gives me another opportunity to be creative when I am restricted – that’s when breaking the rules becomes the most fun and rewarding.
Here’s a few of my favorites from Emma and Frank’s Northwestern engagement session. Hope you like viewing them as much as we did taking them!
